The Quebec Mounted Police Members’ Association hosted its 32n annual charity golf tournament at the Vallée des Forts golf club in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu on June 5, 2015. The event featured a special banquet following the tournament, and the presentation of a $1,000 cheque to two representatives from the Expression Libre organization — a St-Jean-based group that, since 1994, has assisted young victims of sexual assault and their families.

The tournament is one of several fund-raising events that the association’s foundation hosts throughout the year to help dozens of community groups across Quebec.

The work done by the team at Expression Libre has had proven and concrete results in the community, and the Quebec Mounted Police Members’ Association continues to support this group by donating funds annually so that Expression Libre may continue to provide much-needed resources to those who need it most. The Quebec Mounted Police Members’ Association has been helping Expression Libre since 2007.

On the morning of June 5, 2015, about 40 brave golfers — RCMP officers, sponsors and other citizens — gathered at the golf club under a threatening grey sky to play a full day of golf. Among the golfers was a group from the Association des policières et policiers provinciaux du Québec. As the day moved forward, the skies cleared up and the sun shone brightly, but not before torrential rain returned just as the golfers were finishing their rounds.

With the end-of-day banquet almost done, Association treasurer André Girard addressed the troops of golfers before presenting a $1,000 cheque to Isabelle Pelletier and Stéphane Litjens of Expression Libre.

Expression Libre offers a program of support for children and women who have been victims of sexual assault. The organization offers support meetings and workshops every Monday evening for a duration of 15 weeks. The themes addressed include the dynamics of sexual assault and its consequences, how to deal with its effects, how to manage emotions and engage in healthy relationships and taking control of your life.
